I used to think the 'big three' anime were overrated, but a rewatch changed my mind

I watched Naruto for the first time back in high school and thought it was just okay, with too much filler. I decided to give it another shot last month and watched the original series again. The difference is I skipped all the filler arcs this time, which cut out like 40% of the episodes. The pacing was so much better and I actually got invested in the characters and world building. It made me realize my first impression was totally shaped by the bad pacing, not the story itself. Has anyone else had a show improve for them just by watching a better version or order?

Skipping filler is just cheating the real experience.

Cheating the real experience? That's assuming filler is part of the real thing and not just padding to meet a broadcast schedule. If the creators didn't intend it as part of the main story, skipping it is just getting to their actual vision faster. Some of us have jobs and can't spend 50 hours watching a character run in place for three episodes lol.

But isn't filler made by the creators too?
