I just hit 500 completed anime and it feels weird

I was updating my list on MyAnimeList today and the number jumped from 499 to 500. I didn't even plan it, the 500th show was just some random comedy I finished. It made me think about how much time that really is. I started watching seriously about eight years ago, so that's over 60 shows a year. Honestly, hitting that number made me feel a bit empty, not proud. It's like I've seen so much that new stuff rarely feels special anymore. Has anyone else hit a big watch count and felt the same way?

But what if that sharp taste is the problem, you know? Like @luna819 said about spotting what's good, but does that just make you picky and bored? Maybe the real question is why you need a show to feel special at all anymore.

500 is just a number. The emptiness is a choice. You could see it as a library you built, not a hole you dug. Shows like Mob Psycho or Odd Taxi still hit hard because they're good, not because they're new. The special feeling comes from finding a story that clicks, not from the count being low. More shows watched just means you're better at spotting what's actually worth your time.

Ugh YES this is so true. I used to feel that way too but now I just get excited when something actually grabs me. It's like your taste gets sharper.
