I finally stopped skipping the OP and it fixed my watch parties

Three weeks ago I hosted a rewatch of a 90s mecha show and kept hitting skip intro out of habit, which made two friends complain we were missing the foreshadowing hidden in the lyrics. So I made a rule to watch every opening sequence in full, and turns out the show spells out the villain's plan in the second verse, which we never caught in 20 years. Anyone else found that reading the credits or OP actually changes how you see an episode?

That "foreshadowing hidden in the lyrics" bit really sticks with me. Once you start paying attention, you realize the OP is basically a spoiler warning with a cool beat. I watched a space western where the first episode's intro shows a ship getting sliced in half, and it took until season two for that exact scene to happen, but by then you already knew who was gonna survive. It also changes how you read characters, like the villain's theme playing during a hero's intro makes you question their motives way earlier than the plot wants you to. Honestly, skipping the OP feels like reading the last page of a book first, you just don't know you're doing it.
