Buddy swore I was watching anime wrong, turns out he had a point

My coworker Dave kept saying I needed to watch subbed instead of dubbed because I was missing the real acting. I told him he was being a snob for like 3 years. Now I finally switched and I'm catching way more emotion in the voices - anyone else have a stubborn opinion about subs vs dubs that changed on them?

Ha! Yeah the ADHD thing is real though. I got the same problem - my brain will just check out during long dialogue scenes in dubs, but with subs I'm locked in the whole time because I'm literally reading every word. It's like the subtitles give my constant motion brain a job to do so it stops making up its own distractions. Plus you start noticing all the little voice cracks and breaths the voice actors do between lines, stuff that gets buried in the English mix for some reason. Really changes how you connect with the characters when you can hear them actually struggling to get words out instead of some clean studio recording.

Dude subs make you focus harder because no lazy eye zoning out.

Oh man, I feel you on this one. I have adhd and my eyes wander all over the place without subs, it's like my brain is trying to escape through my eyeballs. Having that text there really does anchor my focus and stops me from drifting off into thinking about what's for dinner instead of watching the show.
