Bought a limited edition box set for $180 and the discs were scratched

I grabbed the collector's edition of an old mecha series last month since it said 'remastered' on the box. Opened it up and three discs had visible scratches that made episodes skip halfway through. Anyone else get burned by expensive rereleases that weren't checked for quality?

I used to think you were overreacting but my Evangelion set had the same issue.

The actual problem is the adhesive they switched to around 2021. @felix_lane99 I noticed you mentioned the same issue - it's not just a bad batch thing. I cracked open a few copies to check and the glue composition is completely different from the original run. It gets brittle after about 6 months of normal humidity changes. This is a manufacturing cost cutting move that turned into a widespread defect. Everyone focuses on the packaging scratches but the binding failure is the real time bomb nobody's talking about.
