Bought a $300 collector's edition blu-ray and the subtitles don't match the dub

I dropped $300 on that new steelbook set for my favorite mecha series from the 90s. Opened it up last night and the subtitles are completely different from what the characters are saying in English. It's like they translated straight from the Japanese script without any thought to the dub. Anyone else run into this with these anniversary re-releases?

...and that's exactly what happened to me with the Evangelion Ultimate Edition last year. I was so excited to finally have the whole series in a nice box, but the dub and subs felt like two completely different shows. It's frustrating because you'd think for that kind of money they would take the time to sync everything properly.

@pat_coleman honestly maybe the mismatch is intentional to make you actually learn Japanese.
