Spent $300 on a retargeting campaign that flopped, then fixed it with one change
So I run a small online store selling vintage camera gear (mostly lenses and cases) and last month I poured $300 into a Facebook retargeting ad for people who visited my checkout page but didn't buy. I figured it would be an easy win, you know? But after 5 days I had zero conversions and like 2 clicks. I was about to trash the whole thing when a buddy pointed out my ad copy was super generic - just 'Come back and finish your order.' He told me to try a specific product image with a limited stock note instead. So I swapped it to show a rare Canon 50mm lens with 'Only 2 left' and boom, 12 sales in 3 days from that same retargeting pool. It taught me that retargeting is more about the emotional hook than just reminding people you exist. Has anyone else seen ads flop hard until you tweaked one small thing?

$300 is just a drop in the bucket for a lesson that obvious.

$300 seems steep for a lesson anyone with common sense already knows.
