Vent: My before-bed yoga flows are fast and it really works for me

Most folks say evening yoga should be slow to help you relax, but I do the opposite. I run through a quick, energetic flow right before I hit the pillow. It started when I noticed calm poses just left me lying awake, thinking too much. Now I do a short series with moves like warrior jumps and fast sun salutes. It takes about ten minutes and burns off that last bit of restlessness. My friend who teaches yoga says it's a bad idea and will keep me up. But I fall asleep faster and sleep deeper when I do it. If you always hear to slow down but it doesn't help, maybe try a speedy flow instead.

Is this even worth stressing over? If jumping around before bed knocks you out, then just do it. Your friend's advice is just one way, not a law. People love to make rules for everything, but bodies are all different. Seriously, if it works for you, that's all that matters, lol.

Honestly, that makes total sense to me. I tried a chill flow once and just ended up overthinking my grocery list in corpse pose. Maybe my brain just needs to be properly tired out too.

Totally get what you mean about overthinking in corpse pose, used to be the same. I'd do slow stretches before bed and just lay there making mental lists of every single thing I forgot to do. Started doing heavier lifts or a hard bike ride instead, and it actually shuts my brain off. @the_oliver is right that it's not a rule for everyone, but man, for some of us a good physical drain is the only off switch.
