Showerthought: Ditching my dining table freed up floor space, but now meals feel less formal.

I removed the table to have more room for my yoga mat. My spouse says eating at the counter is fine, but I miss sitting down together. Where do you stand on having a dedicated eating area?

Honestly we did the same thing last year and the room just felt weirdly empty. Ended up getting one of those small foldable tables from a thrift store, the kind with two chairs that tuck under. It lives against the wall most of the time, but we pull it out for dinner. It’s not a proper dining set but it makes eating together feel like a real meal, not just snacks at the counter. We even sit on floor cushions sometimes which is kinda fun.

We actually use a console table against the wall with two stools tucked under. It looks nice as decor but we just slide the stools out to eat. Works perfect for our small place.

Make floor cushions your main seats to keep the area open.
