Rant: That perfectly curated street food tour in Manila missed the point for me
Last month I signed up for a highly praised tour through the Quiapo district, but each stop felt like a staged exhibit rather than a living food scene. The vendors had pre portioned samples ready, and our guide rushed us past bustling stalls that weren't on the schedule. I left realizing that the magic of street food for me has always been in the messy, unscripted interactions, not in a polished itinerary. Now I advise friends to skip the tours and just wander with an empty stomach and a curious mind.

See, I actually appreciate those curated tours for first-time visitors. They offer a guided entry point into overwhelming food scenes, ensuring you hit highlights without the paralysis of choice. Isn't there a place for both approaches, depending on your comfort level?

No way those tours find the actual good spots.
