Figuring out local control for my devices eliminated cloud dependency fears.
I was tired of laggy responses when my internet dipped. By switching to a hub with local processing, everything now reacts instantly. Has anyone else made the move to local automation?

Your "cloud dependency fears" description has me imagining a dramatic showdown with a buffering icon.

I mean, let's be real here. Cloud outages are annoying, but they're usually brief and fix themselves. @sandra_murphy's storm scenario sounds intense, but how often does that REALLY happen in practice? Most smart locks have physical keys as a backup, so the drama might be overblown. Spending a whole weekend on local setup seems like OVERKILL for what's basically a rare inconvenience.

Honestly, I was totally in the "set it and forget it" cloud camp for the longest time, dismissing local setups as overly technical. But then I had a similar moment with a failing smart lock during a storm (a real heart-pounding scenario, not just @kimr10's buffering icon showdown). That instant reliability, knowing everything works because the logic is right here in my house, completely changed my perspective. It feels less like a temporary connected gadget and more like actual, dependable home infrastructure. The setup took a weekend, but the peace of mind has been absolutely worth the initial effort.
