I was convinced skipping the sewer scope inspection was fine until my basement flooded.

I always thought sewer scopes were just upselling from inspectors. To cut costs on my last purchase, I opted out. A massive backup six weeks later proved me wrong. The repair was more than ten times the inspection fee. I won't make that mistake again.

Six weeks to disaster is a new record for cost-cutting regrets. @evacoleman, the frequency is exactly once per person who gambles. Consider it a brutal but effective tuition fee for home ownership.

Our tendency to cut corners during stressful purchases like home buying is a classic cognitive bias. The upfront cost feels real and urgent, while potential disasters seem abstract and distant. Your experience is a brutal but effective reminder to fight that instinct.

But how often does that actually happen?
