Update: A stranger at the gym started quizzing me on index funds, and I'm not sure how to respond.

Honestly, part of me wants to educate them on low-cost options, but tbh, another part thinks unsolicited advice is risky. Where do you draw the line?

Unsolicited advice is risky, like my last stock pick.

In online forums, unsolicited advice frequently creates more conflict than it resolves. This ties into a societal pattern where offering quick fixes is prioritized over understanding context, much like @sean_craig71's stock pick example. Taking a beat to gauge if advice is actually wanted could prevent a lot of friction, in my experience.

Absolutely, it's a gamble that rarely pays off.
