Thinking back to the era when film critics were household names, not just algorithmically curated voices.

Roger Ebert was on TV every week back in the day, and his reviews felt like major events. But honestly, how many regular people let a critic dictate their entertainment choices? Most of us just wanted a fun night out and picked movies based on trailers or friends' tips. Now with algorithmically curated voices, at least the suggestions are tailored to individual tastes, which is kinda useful. The nostalgia for critic celebrities is nice, but it's not like their absence ruins the movie experience, lmao.

What if critics like Ebert actually raised the bar for what audiences expected from films? That kind of cultural guidance feels more meaningful than any algorithm serving you the same old stuff.

Caught a podcast where they said Ebert's reviews actually taught people how to discuss film language. Algorithms just reinforce your existing tastes without that educational push. Ever notice how hard it is to talk about movies with friends who all watch different algorithm-picked stuff?
