A visit to Paris turned my view on our trade upside down

I always figured ironwork was for local projects only. Walking under the Eiffel Tower and seeing the rivets up close made me proud of what we build. Has traveling ever changed your pride in the job?

Totally get that. Saw an old iron bridge in Scotland once and it hit me how our work lasts for ages. Makes the sore hands feel worth it.

Honestly that "lasts for ages" thing hits different now. Look at my IKEA desk already wobbling after two years, but some Victorian iron fence is out there winning its 150th winter. Really makes you wonder if we're building anything that'll make future people go "damn, they knew how to make a shelf".

Found this cast iron skillet at a thrift store once. It's probably from the 1940s and still works like a dream. My modern pans lose their coating after a few months, but this thing is built to last. It really shows how quality has taken a backseat to convenience. Kind of sad when you think about it, but at least my eggs taste better.
