My dad's paper portfolio vs. my app frenzy. A warning for new investors.

Paper portfolios required patience. News came daily. Now apps give real-time updates. This leads to over trading. I followed a hot tip and lost money. My dad's method was safer. Slow down and plan your moves.

Notice how paper forces a physical pause between seeing a number and acting on it. That friction built into the old system might be the safety feature we removed.

Man that hits home. I was just trying to pay a friend back for lunch, and Venmo autofilled the wrong person because I'd texted someone with a similar name. That instant "send" button with no real step to check feels dangerous sometimes. It's like we traded that good friction for pure speed and now my brain has to do all the safety checking itself. Makes me miss writing checks just for the built in "are you sure" moment.

Totally get what you mean, @andrew_foster92. Did almost the same thing last week sending rent money, my thumb just flew to confirm before my eyes even checked the tiny profile picture. That gut drop feeling when you realize it's gone to the wrong person is the worst. We used to have that built in stop with paper, like Miles said, but now it's all on us. Makes you worry one day you'll just pay a total stranger without even blinking.

Yeah @kai619, my thumb almost sent cash to the wrong Alex yesterday!
