A solo hike to Eagle Peak gave me a fresh take on quiet

I headed out to Eagle Peak early last Sunday. The trail is rough with lots of loose rocks. After about an hour, I sat on a big flat stone to drink some water. From that spot, I could see the whole forest spread out below. It was so still, with just the sound of the wind in the trees. I realized I had not looked at my phone once since I started. That constant buzz in my head from daily stuff just faded away. For the first time in weeks, I felt truly calm and clear.

Read something the other day about how being without your phone forces you to look at the world around you... made me want to leave mine in a drawer for a while.

@faith274, I understand the appeal of putting your phone away, but I've found mine can deepen my attention to the world. Just last week, I used an app to identify a bird song in my backyard, which led me to learn about local wildlife. That kind of thing makes me more observant, not less. It's all about using the device with purpose.
