Stranger at a cafe told me about a secret hot spring in the mountains.

He said it's not on any maps. Should I trust a random recommendation like that?

Lol, that sounds like a classic urban legend setup. I remember reading a blog post about how these 'secret' spots often get passed around without anyone checking if they're real. It's probably best to ask around locally before you commit to a hike.

Yeah, totally used to chase every "secret" tip I heard. Then I got burned following bad directions to a cave that was literally just a shallow ditch, lol. Now I triple-check with locals first.

Last year a guy at a bus stop told me about a hidden waterfall. I drove two hours only to find a dried up creek bed and a lot of poison oak. People love to seem in the know, but they often don't think about the actual directions or if the place even exists anymore. I would never go into the mountains alone based on a random tip. At least ask a park ranger or check at a local gear shop to see if they've heard of it. Some secrets are better left as just a good story.
