During a detour off the highway, I discovered a historic mill town with the best pie I've ever had
Was heading to a client meeting upstate and took a wrong turn. Ended up in this place called Millbrook, where they have a working watermill and a family-run diner. The apple pie was unbelievable, and the locals were super friendly. Anyone know of other hidden towns like this in the Northeast? I'm planning a weekend trip to explore more.

Oh man, my sense of direction is so bad I find places like that on purpose. Got hopelessly lost looking for a flea market in upstate New York once and wound up at this tiny roadside stand run by a woman who made her own rhubarb strawberry jam. Bought three jars and a loaf of bread from her neighbor, best accidental lunch ever. My friends won't let me navigate anymore, but honestly it's the only way to find the good stuff.

Seriously, getting lost is the best way to stumble on those hidden spots. I once took a wrong turn in the countryside and found a little farm selling fresh honey. My friends were annoyed but we ended up with the sweetest snack. It's like you get rewarded for having no sense of direction. Now I almost prefer not knowing where I'm going...

Have you explored the backroads of Vermont? Stumbled upon a place called Grafton last fall, classic general store and absurdly good cider donuts. Don't rely on GPS, get a paper map.
