Bringing my own food to the site changed everything for me

I've been running excavators for a while now, and lunch used to be a hassle. We'd often just get burgers from the closest place, and I'd feel sluggish after. But lately, I've seen a bunch of us start packing meals from home. My friend Mark brought a big pot of stew last Monday, and it was so good. Eating that instead of greasy food, I didn't get that afternoon fog where you're just going through the motions. It hit me that when you're moving tons of dirt, you need to be sharp. So I've been making simple things like sandwiches and salads the night before. It takes a bit of time, but I feel way better and more in control of the machine.

Come on, packing lunch sounds great but it's just not real for my schedule. I'm out the door at 4am, and the last thing I want to do is make a salad at 10pm. Plus, my work truck is packed with gear, so a cooler just gets in the way. Sometimes that burger from the diner is the only warm, easy thing I get all day. What do you do when you have zero time or space?

@jana_fox50, is it really that serious? Just pack a sandwich.

My old crew used to keep a cheap lunchbox in the truck with those shelf-stable tuna packs and a sleeve of crackers. Takes up no space and you can eat it cold. I'd also grab a bag of apples on Monday, toss one in my bag each morning. It's not a full meal but it beats spending fifteen bucks every single day.
