Saw #SockGate taking over my feed and it changed my view on viral tags

I was just online and saw #SockGate blowing up from a debate over sock colors. Honestly, I think these goofy trends connect us more than political hashtags ever do. What's your take on why silly stuff gets so huge?

In my feed, I saw over 500 posts about #SockGate in just an hour. That neon orange socks story from @the_elizabeth really hits home, how random stuff spreads. Do you think these goofy trends blow up because they're a safe space for pointless fun? It's like everyone needs a break from arguing about real problems all the time.

Seriously, same. It reminds me of this wild neon orange pair of socks I had in sixth grade that somehow became a whole thing.

Hold up, does this really help anyone take a break? It feels more like we're just filling the quiet with noise. We swap one big topic for a silly one, but we're still just staring at screens. Maybe instead of another goofy trend, we could just log off for a bit. In the end, all this chatter about socks is still just chatter. It doesn't fix the need for a real break.
