Passing an abandoned gunsmith workshop on a road trip through Missouri.
It hit me how the trade's heart has shifted from local craftsmen to online parts orders.

Five empty shops later, my rifle still needs a handshake.

Ever notice how many of those old workshops are just sitting empty now? I used to just buy parts online without a second thought, but seeing places like that makes me miss when you could take a broken rifle down the street to get it fixed right. It's all just boxes from websites now, and something feels lost.

Read an article about how those empty shops hurt more than just repair jobs. They were community spots where people actually talked face to face. Now we just get a cardboard box and a packing slip, which is pretty lame.
