Found a cool antique gun care tip during a road trip through Texas

I stopped at a tiny historical society museum in a small town off the highway. They had a display on frontier revolvers, and the volunteer there showed me how they used to clean delicate screws with a drop of kerosene and a soft brush. It's a gentle way to loosen grime without damaging old metal. I've been using it on some vintage pieces in my shop with great results. Always neat to pick up bits of the trade from places like that!

Did you always think harsh cleaners were needed... I did, but this kerosene tip changed my mind.

Kerosene really does work surprisingly well for certain jobs. It cuts through grease without needing to be so aggressive. A good reminder that the strongest chemical isn't always the answer.

But kerosene smells awful, iris940.
