Appreciation post: I finally tried a bore scope after years of thinking it was just a fancy toy

A buddy in Tucson let me use his Teslong on a tricky .22LR barrel last month, and seeing the actual carbon ring in the throat was a game changer. Anyone have a good trick for cleaning one out without going too hard on the steel?

What solvent are you using on that carbon ring?

My buddy tried cleaning a carbon bike frame with some generic degreaser last month and it totally clouded the clear coat. He had to get the whole thing polished out. The shop told him to only use isopropyl alcohol on bare carbon, and a gentle bike-specific cleaner for finished surfaces. That mistake cost him a pretty penny to fix.

Wondering if the solvent choice even matters if the ring's resin is already compromised. Seen a few older carbon parts where the epoxy gets brittle from UV exposure, and then any liquid, even water, can start to delaminate the fibers. A guy at the trailhead last year had a chainring spider just... separate after he wiped it down. Might be less about what you clean it with and more about checking for that chalky look or tiny cracks first.
