Appreciation post: An experienced smith complimented my restoration at the show
I brought a shotgun I restored to a local gun show. An experienced smith stopped by, checked my work, and gave me a sincere compliment. What little moment made you feel like you were on the right path?

Yeah that "nice bonus" thing burns.riley said hits it. Getting a pat on the back feels good in the moment, no lie. But making it mean you're on the right path? What about all the hours you work where nobody sees it, or the next guy who rips your fit and finish? If you need that praise to feel sure, you're gonna have a bad time the second it gets quiet or someone criticizes you.

Yeah it's a nice boost for sure, but is that really how you measure being on the right path? Like, one comment from one person at a show. What happens next week when nobody says anything, or some other guy points out a flaw you missed. Basing your confidence on praise from others seems shaky. Feels better to just know your own work is solid for your own reasons, you know? The compliment is just a nice bonus on a good day.
