I finally cleared out my old sketchbook piles from the spare room
Looking at my past work, I see how my taste in patterns and fonts has gotten simpler over the years. It's funny how we used to cram so much into a layout, lol. What's one trend from back then that you kinda want to bring back now?

Ever try mixing one of those old busy styles with your current simpler work? @jordanhill, your ransom note flyers had a raw energy that clean design often misses. A little controlled chaos in a personal project can be surprisingly fun now.

Yeah, I know what you mean. A friend of mine was going through her old art school projects last week. She had all these posters with crazy, detailed borders and overlapping text. She said she misses that maxed-out look now that everything is so clean and minimal. It felt more personal, like each piece had its own chaos. Maybe we overdid it, but there was a charm to that busy style.

Oh man, that hits close to home. I found some of my old band flyers from like ten years ago, and they were a total mess of clip art and five different fonts. Looks like a ransom note made by a teenager, which I guess it was. But you're right, it had way more personality than a clean template. There was something fun about trying to cram every single idea onto one page.
