Warning: I found a weird way to stop my punty from sticking to the piece.
I was working on a small vase last week and my punty kept sticking so hard it was cracking the neck when I tried to break it off. I remembered my old teacher in Toledo saying to try a tiny bit of saliva on the punty tip before you attach it (sounds gross, I know). I tried it and the piece popped right off clean after the final reheat. Has anyone else used this trick, or is there a better way to get a clean break?

So we're just spitting on our work now? What's next, blowing your nose on a cloth to get a better polish? I guess if it works it works, but my shop teacher would have lost his mind.

My shop teacher would have agreed with emery19, honestly.
