Hot take: I thought those $15 screen protectors from the mall kiosk were a total rip-off until my phone hit the pavement in Denver last week.

The thing didn't even crack, just a tiny scratch on the protector itself, which completely changed my mind about paying for the cheap ones versus the $40 brand name versions.

Yeah, it's one of those things you don't appreciate until it actually saves you. That cheap protector basically ate the damage so your actual screen didn't have to. Makes you wonder what else we overpay for just for the brand name.

My last pair of generic headphones outlived three expensive branded ones.

Read an article once about how some of those cheap generic products come from the exact same factories as the name brand stuff. They just skip the fancy packaging and the marketing budget. Makes you wonder if you're just paying for the logo half the time. My buddy swears by the no-name earbuds he gets at the gas station, says they last him a year easy. Kinda proves the point that price doesn't always mean better.
