The day I tried to rush a shellac finish and ended up with a sticky nightmare

Last Tuesday I had a rush job on an old oak dresser, figured I could speed up the shellac by layering it thick. Big mistake. It dried all tacky and grabbed my dust cloth like velcro. I spent an extra 4 hours sanding it back down to bare wood. My coworker Jim laughed and said I shoulda just used wipe-on poly instead. Has anyone else learned that lesson the hard way?

Is 4 hours really that big a deal for a do-over that works?

Yeah a buddy redid his whole setup in under 4 hours and it fixed everything.
