Pro tip: I tried a $15 foam brush from the hardware store versus a $2 china bristle brush on a mahogany table...

The foam one left streaks and bubbles in the oil-based poly, but the cheap bristle brush laid it down smooth as glass. I wasted half a day sanding out the mess from the first try. What's your go-to brush for clear coats on dark wood?

It's funny how often the simplest, cheapest tool beats the fancy one. Reminds me of how my granddad's old cast iron pan cooks better than any nonstick I've ever bought.

Totally feel you on that. It's like the old stuff was just built better and simpler, no need for all the extra bells and whistles. Sometimes I think we overcomplicate things when the basic version works just FINE.
