Pro tip: I switched from a cheap foam brush to a Purdy Nylox for applying shellac and the finish is way smoother.

The foam brush left tiny bubbles and streaks on a maple dresser I was working on. The Purdy holds more finish and lays it down flat with no marks. It costs about $12 but saves so much time on sanding between coats. Anyone have a favorite brush for water-based poly?

My Purdy brushes have lasted for years.

That "lasted for years" thing is the whole point. I see it everywhere, not just with brushes. People buy the cheap version of something, it breaks or wears out fast, and they have to keep buying it. Spending a bit more once for something that actually lasts ends up saving you money and hassle. It's a mindset shift from just looking at the price tag to thinking about how long the thing will work.

Lasted for years? It's a paint brush, not a car. I've used cheap ones that get the job done just fine. Seems like people make a big deal over small stuff. If it holds paint and doesn't shed bristles, it works.
