My $200 orbital sander is the best money I ever spent, hands down.

I used to fight with a cheap vibrating sander for years, taking forever on table tops and wearing out my arm. Bought a Makita BO5041 on a whim during a sale at the local hardware store. It cuts prep time in half and leaves a finish-ready surface every single time. Anyone still using those little palm sanders for big flat work?

That's a solid tool for sure, but it's total overkill for most weekend projects. A decent random orbit sander gets the job done without the weight or price tag. Sometimes the fancy gear just isn't worth the hassle.
