Appreciation post: My old spray gun clogged on a big job last week

I was putting the final coat on a maple dresser and the tip just gummed up with finish. I had to stop, clean everything with lacquer thinner, and start over, which added two hours. Anyone have a good trick for keeping shellac from setting up in the gun so fast?

Man, that's the worst feeling when the gun quits on the final coat. I've had that happen with shellac too, it dries so fast. Have you tried adding a little bit of denatured alcohol to your mix to slow it down? I keep a small spray bottle of alcohol handy to mist the tip between coats.

Ugh, that's the worst! It feels like everything from cars to coffee makers is designed to fail right at the finish line these days.
