Update: I finally stopped working for free on 'quick' logo drafts
Six months ago, I'd spend a whole day sketching ideas for a 'potential' client who just wanted to 'see my style'. Now, I send a simple $50 mood board fee before any pencil hits paper. The change came after three straight 'ghosts' in April left me with nothing but wasted hours. Has anyone else set a small upfront fee to filter out the tire kickers?

Good move. That fifty dollar filter is smart. It turns a maybe into a real yes before you even start. Saves your energy for the clients who actually mean it.

My first paid logo gig came from a free sketch. That fifty dollar wall might scare off the good ones too, not just the time wasters. You can build trust without a fee.

Yeah I learned that the hard way. My free sketches were so good they ghosted me out of shame.
