Serious question, I was at the library in Tacoma and saw a guy using a timer for his laptop breaks.
He told me he sets it for 45 minutes of work, then 15 minutes away from the screen, and his focus is way better. Does anyone else use a strict schedule like that to avoid burnout?

Oh that's actually a classic technique, it's called the Pomodoro method. Most people do 25 minutes of work and then a 5 minute break though, not 45 and 15. His version is a longer block, which is cool if it works for him. I tried the normal way and it really does help you stop staring at the screen without realizing it. Sticking to any kind of timer is better than just grinding until your eyes hurt.

Wait, 45 minutes is the long version?

Honestly the timer thing just breaks my flow every time. Getting into a deep work zone takes longer than 25 minutes, and a buzzer just yanks me right out of it. That constant interruption is worse for focus than just working until I naturally need a pause.
