Remember when we all thought cold calls were the only way to get work?

I met a guy named Mark at a coffee shop in Boulder about 8 years ago. He told me he got all his clients from a free blog he wrote for fun. I thought he was nuts. Now my whole business runs on a newsletter. Anyone else have a story like that?

Wait, a free blog? That's wild. My brain would've short-circuited hearing that back then.

Remember trying to explain a blog to my parents and they just could not get it was free. Honestly felt like I was speaking a different language. Tbh the whole idea of putting your thoughts online for zero dollars felt like science fiction. I spent hours customizing my page with glitter graphics and a terrible midi song.

Honestly, I feel you on explaining blogs to parents, it was like trying to describe a new color or something. I remember my dad asking why anyone would "write for free" and I just couldn't make him see how it was sharing ideas, not selling them. Tbh that feeling of it all being so weird back then is kind of sweet now.
