PSA: Skipping the 'exposure' gig landed me a paying client soon after.
Saying no to free work can surprisingly lead to actual money.

Wonder if this works for everyone or just lucky breaks. Seen plenty of artists and writers do a free piece that actually got them noticed by the right person. Sometimes exposure is just a fancy word for getting used, but other times it's the only way in. Feels like saying no to everything free might close more doors than it opens, depending on the field.

It's like that friend who always asks for favors but never returns them. Setting a hard line makes people take you more seriously.

Saw a good post about this last week. It said the trick is knowing the difference between a real chance and someone just trying to get free work. If a big name you respect asks for a sample, that's one thing. But if it's some random company that just wants free stuff forever, that's a hard no. Setting a line doesn't mean saying no to everything, it means being smart about what you give away. You gotta protect your own time and value, or nobody else will.
