Pro tip: My biggest client's payment bounced right before rent was due...

I was at my kitchen table last Tuesday, checking my account for a $2,500 invoice that was supposed to clear. The money just wasn't there. I called the bank and they said the check had bounced due to insufficient funds. I immediately emailed the client, kept it professional but firm, and asked for a wire transfer instead. They apologized and sent the money the next day, but I had to put rent on a credit card for a day... Has anyone else had to switch payment methods on a client last minute like that?

My buddy had a client do that with a huge check once.

Yeah that's wild. My friend's a contractor and a guy paid for a whole kitchen reno with a personal check that was like, comically huge. The bank put a hold on it for over a week, totally stalled the project. Felt so bad for my friend, he had to float all the material costs. Some people just don't get how that looks on the other end.

Used to think big checks were just a flex, but hearing stuff like this and what evan_burns95 mentioned shows how it actually hurts the contractor. I mean, that hold can really mess up someone's cash flow. Makes you see why people ask for bank checks or transfers instead.
