I finally tried that 'cold email' thing for my freelance writing and it actually worked

I was sure sending emails to strangers was a waste of time, but after sending 20 last month, I landed a $500 project from a tech startup in Austin. It convinced me to keep doing it, but I'm still figuring out what to say in the emails. What's the best way you've found to write a cold email that doesn't sound like spam?

My buddy got a gig by just asking about their blog's weird font choice. Made it personal.

Totally works. Landed a client once by noticing their site photos were all from the same trip. Just asked about the location.

Man, that's so true. It's like people forget to just be human. I notice it when I'm out. Compliment someone's dog or ask about a cool bumper sticker, and you just have a real talk. That little personal touch cuts through all the noise. It shows you're paying attention to more than just what you want from them.
