I was charging $75 an hour for my copywriting, then a client told me my work was 'good, but not $75 good'.

Sounds like a cheap client trying to talk down your rate. Your price is your price. If they don't like it, they can find someone else.

But what if the client isn't just cheap... what if they genuinely don't see the value? Sometimes people just don't get what goes into the work. Do you ever worry that sticking to a hard line just makes you lose jobs to people who charge less but do worse work? It's a tough spot to be in for sure.

I had a client last year who kept saying my rate was too high. I broke down exactly what they were paying for, hour by hour, and suddenly it clicked for them. If they still don't see the value after that, they were never going to be a good fit anyway. You can't compete with the bottom of the market without hurting your own business.
