A client in Portland ghosted me on a $2,500 invoice
I finished the project, sent the final files, and then my emails just bounced back. I had to file a claim in small claims court, which felt like a huge waste of time. Has anyone else had to take legal action for a late payment?

Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare... I once had to chase someone for $400 and it felt like pulling teeth. I can't imagine doing it for two and a half grand, but at least you got your pound of flesh... maybe all that time in court burned calories or something.

Did you check if their business is still open? Sometimes they ghost because the company shut down.

Bet on the company being alive and just ghosting. Ghosting is the norm now, even for small businesses, because they get swamped with leads and just stop responding to people they're not interested in. Your mileage may vary, but I've had more luck with the "they're still open, just bad at email" theory than with finding actual closed doors.
