A client in Austin tried to pay me with a jar of coins and a promise of 'exposure'

I was finishing up a big website project for a local bakery, and we met at their shop to go over the final details. The owner, a really nice guy, was super happy with the work. When it came time to pay the $2,500 invoice, he got a serious look and said, 'I've got a better idea.' He then pulled out a huge glass jar filled with quarters and dimes from under the counter. He said, 'This should cover most of it, and I'll tell everyone at the farmer's market you're a genius!' I just stood there, not sure if he was joking. I had to gently explain that my mortgage company doesn't accept exposure as a payment method, and counting that jar would take me half a day. We settled on a check, but I still laugh thinking about it. Has anyone else gotten a truly wild payment offer from a happy client?

Remember that guy who offered me free website work for "exposure"? At least your stale muffins would have been something to eat. Some people really do value their junk over actual money.
