Update: I saw a guy get his glove caught in a conveyor at the old Midland Steel plant
It was about five years ago during a night shift. He was trying to clear a jam on the sand feed line without locking it out first. The machine grabbed his glove and pulled his whole arm in before it tripped the emergency stop. He only broke his wrist, but it could have been a lot worse. Everyone says 'just be careful' but I think we need to push for more automatic lockouts on those old systems. Has your shop upgraded any of the older gear to make it safer?

Glad he's okay, but my own safety record makes me a poster child for lockout procedures (or the lack thereof).

Man, that story hits close to home. We had a similar scare with an old belt sander before they finally put in a new one with a magnetic lockout. Pushing for that upgrade was a fight, but showing them the near-miss reports and the cost of one bad injury finally got them to listen. It shouldn't take almost losing a hand to get safe gear, you know? Those old systems rely way too much on people never making a single tired mistake.
