Unpopular opinion: I thought the old-timer who insisted on using a specific ramming technique for greensand was just stuck in his ways.
He showed me at the 2018 AFS CastExpo in Fort Worth how his method cut our scrap rate by 15% on a tricky job. Anyone else have a simple trick that actually worked better than the modern way?

Remember reading about a guy who swore by using a piece of burlap sack to pack the sand around a pattern instead of a fancy rammer? Sounded nuts, but he claimed it gave a more even fill on deep pockets. Makes you wonder how many of those old shop floor fixes we've lost by always going for the new tool, doesn't it?
