Our old sand slinger's main drive belt snapped halfway through a Tuesday pour

It was a 2-inch wide V-belt that had been on there since before I started. We had a spare in the maintenance locker and got it swapped in under an hour by rigging a temporary block on the hoist. Anyone have a good source for heavy-duty belts that can handle the constant start-stop shock loads?

That "constant start-stop shock load" is the real killer. We had a similar thing happen on an old conveyor system, not a sand slinger, but the same kind of jerky motion. It chewed through standard belts like they were nothing. We ended up going with a raw edge cog belt instead of a classic V-belt, the kind with the little teeth on the inside. It had way more grip and could handle the sudden changes without slipping or snapping. Made a world of difference for that particular machine.

Yeah, the raw edge cog belts are the fix for that. They don't rely on just friction like a standard V-belt, so they can take the hit when the motor kicks in hard. The teeth let them bend easier around the pulleys too, which cuts down on the heat that kills regular belts. It's one of those things where the right belt makes the whole machine feel less like it's fighting itself. Saved us a ton of downtime and belt changes.

My buddy swears by cog belts, like morganhill said.
