I thought cheap refractories were fine until my liner cracked.

For years, I bought the low-cost refractory bricks to save money. I figured they'd hold up just as well. Then last month, a crack formed during a pour, and we had a huge mess. Now I always invest in the good stuff. It's not worth the risk.

Learned that lesson after my third cracked kiln shelf.

Ugh, that's such a painful way to learn that lesson. I saw @mia_davis25 had a similar rough time with shelves. It really shows how saving money upfront can cost you way more later.

But what if the expensive ones crack just as fast? Sometimes you just get unlucky.
