Warning about those cheap floral foam bricks from the big craft store

I had a big wedding arch job last weekend and the foam kept crumbling when I pushed stems in. I tried soaking it longer, but it just fell apart. My helper said to wrap each brick in chicken wire before putting flowers in, and it actually held everything tight. Has anyone found a better brand that doesn't need this extra step?

Chicken wire's a good fix, but soaking it too long can make it worse.

Man, I was sure the chicken wire thing was overkill until a baby's breath disaster last month. Had a whole wreath just give up and slide off the foam mid-setup. Wrapping it like a burrito actually kept the stems locked in place, even with heavier roses. Never going back to just trusting the brick on its own.
