Spent $400 on a new flower cooler and it's been a headache
I run a small shop and my old cooler was on its last legs, so I bought a new one for about $400. It was a floor model from a supplier going out of business. The thing looked fine, but the temperature control is all over the place. Some mornings the roses are nearly frozen, other days the hydrangeas are wilting because it's too warm. I've spent more time fussing with the dials and moving flowers around than actually arranging. It's costing me product and stressing me out before I even open. I should have saved up for a better unit or gotten it checked by a tech first. Has anyone else had cooler problems and found a good way to fix them without spending a fortune?

Maybe the thermostat itself is just busted?

Could be the thermostat, but that's the expensive guess. Adam's right about the door seal, it's the usual suspect. My last cooler had a bad gasket and it acted possessed, freezing everything one day and warm the next. A new seal is like twenty bucks and ten minutes to fix. Always check the cheap, simple stuff before you decide the brain is dead.

Have you checked if the door seal is tight? A worn out gasket can let warm air in and mess with the whole system. In my old cooler, a small gap at the bottom caused wild temperature swings. I fixed it temporarily with some foam weather stripping from a hardware store until I could replace the seal. It's a cheap thing to rule out before you call someone.
