Shoutout to the lady who yelled at me for cutting her rose stems too short
I had a customer in Portland last spring who flipped out because I trimmed her long-stem roses down to fit a standard vase. She said I 'ruined the whole point of long stems' and made me redo the arrangement. Does the stem length really matter that much to customers or was she just having a bad day?

Understand that some customers want long stems for height in their big vases, not just looks.

Right, there's a whole functional side people miss. Not everyone's trying to make a fancy statement, sometimes they just need the flower to actually reach the water in that giant glass cylinder they got from a garage sale. A short stem in a tall vase just looks sad, like a kid wearing their dad's coat. Plus, have you ever tried to arrange a bouquet in a deep vase with stubby stems? It's a nightmare, they flop over and never stay put. So yeah, long stems aren't just a preference, they're a practical necessity for a lot of customers who just want a stable arrangement that doesn't look like it's drowning.
