A customer at my shop in Boise asked for a bouquet that 'smelled like her grandma's garden, not like a store'

She described the exact mix of lavender, rosemary, and old roses from her childhood, and it really made me think about how much scent gets lost in modern arrangements, has anyone else had a request like that?

Smelled like her grandma's garden, not like a store" - that line just hit me hard. @jenniferw82, I actually think you're onto something about breeding for looks, because the scent thing is real. I remember my grandmother's roses, they had this deep, almost powdery smell you could smell from across the yard. Now you get these big pretty roses that basically smell like nothing, or that weird generic floral scent they spray on everything. It's like they bred out the soul of the flower for a bigger bloom or a longer shelf life.

That "scent gets lost" idea is interesting. I actually think a lot of modern flowers smell stronger, they just breed them for looks first.

Jenniferw82 has a point, but those old garden scents just hit different, like the lilac and mint bouquet I made last week.
